The World From Our Backyard

Before becoming a mother, I mourned what I’d be leaving behind. I’d carved a whole life out of the thrill of constant change. Different countries, continents, jobs, friends, homes. A new life always available on a whim.

Motherhood meant change, but it also meant permanence. Afraid of losing myself, I brought a necklace with my initial on it. A reminder that no matter what was to come, I would still be me.

Then stars burst, Freddie was born and the only thing I want around my neck is him. Together, forever. Baby boy I’ll show you the world from our backyard, and everyday I’ll see it for myself when I look at you.
